Austin City Lutherans

Events and Updates

* Mariposa Family Learning Center has its annual fall fundraising dinner on Friday, October 21, 6 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Tickets are $20, and available at the Mariposa FLC website, linked here. Scroll down to register. Expansion (this fall!), enrollment, and organizational updates will be featured with delicious food catered by Hecho en Mexico restaurant, located in the Montopolis neighborhood.

* ACL’s new initiative to combat and prevent homelessness includes rent assistance (when available), move-ins with furniture and beds, and partnering connections in the homelessness services community. We collect basic furniture – dressers, kitchen tables and chairs, sofas and chairs (pet-free), and kitchen items like blenders and microwaves – to assist newly housed individuals and families. Contact me to set up a furniture pick-up. We also welcome donations to purchase new and discounted mattresses.

* Bread For All Food Pantry is in great need of in-kind donations as the Central Texas Food Bank is experiencing shortages of food supplies. We expect this to be the case through the end of the year. Consequently, these items are especially needed: canned beans (green, pinto, black), white rice, macaroni and cheese, canned soups, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, basic pasta (other than spaghetti), and dried beans. Diapers, sizes 5 and 6 are also needed.

Thanks to all those who supported Bread For All in this year’s Crop Walk, sponsored by Church World Service. We received $785. Similarly, you are invited to participate and support “Lutherans Walking Boldly for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s” on November 12. This event raises awareness and funds for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. This year’s walk is at Circuit of the Americas, and Lutherans in the Austin area are banding together to make a difference. To join or donate to the Lutherans Walking Boldly team, go to http://act.alz.org/goto/LutheransWalkingBoldly. For more information, contact Carrie Steckl (a member of Abiding Love) at Carrie.Steckl@gmail.com.

Thanks, everyone. “More, better, together” always!
