KIDS + YOUTH
KIDS
We can’t wait to welcome your children into our community of faith! At Shepherd of the Hills, you’ll watch your kids grow and learn about the Bible with the perfect mix of learning and play!
SUNDAY'sCOOL
Sunday’sCool is our children’s ministry program for toddlers through 4th grade. Each week begins upstairs in the Family Ministry Center with Music with Kevin. After singing a few songs, the kids transition to Godly Play, a creative curriculum that brings Bible stories to life in multiple ways.
FAMILY FUN
Family Fun Night happens on the
first Friday of every month from 6-8pm. Sometimes we plan specific activities like
game night or movie night, but sometimes it’s just a casual get-together for families of
any age to enjoy a meal and community!
LITTLES FELLOWSHIP
Littles Fellowship is a monthly gathering meeting on the third Saturday morning of each month for families with preschoolers, toddlers, and infants. Parents can relax over coffee and breakfast tacos while little ones enjoy playtime together. Older siblings are always welcome!
FAMILY RETREATS
Family Retreats are an important part of the rhythm of our faith year. We have families attend Labor Day Family Camp, Family Advent Retreat, and the Mother-Daughter Retreat together each year at Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville, TX.
CHILDREN IN WORSHIP
We welcome children in worship. That's right, wiggles, giggles, tears, and all! Our sanctuary Pray-Ground offers soft toys for little ones to enjoy quietly, and worship bags provide fun, age-appropriate ways for older kids to engage with worship.
SUNDAY CHILD CARE
If you need a little extra space for yourself to focus on worship, we also provide professionally staffed child care on Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon for children ages 1-5. We encourage you to choose what works best for you and your family!
YOUTH
Teens and Preteens thrive at Shepherd of the Hills! We deeply value the importance of faith formation and the gift of Christian community for young people. You're invited to build lasting friendships and learn how you are uniquely created and loved by God.
NEXTGEN CONFIRMATION
5th-8th graders gather on Sunday nights for dinner, games, faithful conversations, and prayer for one another. We love to play together, and we emphasize building a Christian community in this age group. We also grow in our faith by learning the stories of God's love found in scripture and the teachings of our Lutheran theology rooted in the grace of Christ.
NEXTGEN HIGH SCHOOL
9th-12th graders gather on Sunday nights for dinner, Bible study, community building, and prayer. We create space for teens to wrestle with big questions about God and discover a true sense of belonging. We also emphasize the gift of playing together, joining with the middle schoolers for a group game each week!
SUMMER CAMPS
Camp is a time for new friends, new memories, and growing a lifelong faith! There is Day Camp on campus for kinder thru 5th, overnight camp at Chrysalis or LutherHill for 2nd grade and up, and high adventure camps for grades 9-12.
FAITH MILESTONES
The journey of faith includes special markers & moments along the way that reflect our growth in faith and community.
BAPTISM
Jesus welcomes us into the family of faith through baptism, and we rejoice to celebrate this sacrament, or holy ritual of God’s grace, with babies and adults alike! Baptisms take place on Sunday mornings during worship, with the family of faith at Shepherd of the Hills surrounding the baptized in loving prayer and promises.
FIRST COMMUNION
We offer a Holy Communion Retreat each spring that is geared toward 3rd & 4th graders, whether or not they are currently receiving Holy Communion. During the Retreat, students learn more about this sacrament and engage in fun activities to commemorate this milestone in faith. We celebrate these students during a special worship service at the conclusion of the Retreat.
CONFIRMATION
At the end of their 8th grade year, NextGen students are confirmed in the faith. This means that they say “Yes!” to God’s “Yes!” that was spoken to them in their baptism. They live out their baptism in a new way and are loved, prayed for, and encouraged by the church community. Confirmation Day is a joyful celebration at Shepherd of the Hills!
