We welcome children in worship - wiggles, giggles, tears, and all. We have a pray-ground with soft toys and activity tables, worship boxes for kids ready to participate, and a designated Family Room, in case you just need a moment alone!

YOUTH

Teens and Preteens thrive at Shepherd of the Hills! We deeply value the importance of faith formation and the gift of Christian community for young people. Join us to build lasting friendships and to learn how you are uniquely created and loved by God.

NEXTGEN CONFIRMATION

Our Confirmation Ministry for grades 5-8 gathers on Sunday nights for games, teaching, and discussion. We emphasize play, but we also focus on stories of God's love found in scripture, teaching Lutheran theology of grace in Christ, and what it all means for us today.

BAPTISM

Jesus welcomes us into the family of faith through baptism, and we rejoice to celebrate this sacrament, or holy ritual of God’s grace, with babies and adults alike! Baptisms take place on Sunday mornings during worship, with the family of faith at Shepherd of the Hills surrounding the baptized in loving prayer and promises.

FIRST COMMUNION

We offer a Holy Communion Retreat each spring that is geared toward 3rd & 4th graders, whether or not they are currently receiving Holy Communion. During the Retreat, students learn more about this sacrament and engage in fun activities to commemorate this milestone in faith. We celebrate these students during a special worship service at the conclusion of the Retreat.

CONFIRMATION

At the end of their 8th grade year, NextGen students are confirmed in the faith. This means that they say “Yes!” to God’s “Yes!” that was spoken to them in their baptism. They live out their baptism in a new way and are loved, prayed for, and encouraged by the church community. Confirmation Day is a joyful celebration at Shepherd of the Hills!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At what age can my child be baptized? Expand

Babies or children of any age can be baptized here. Contact a Pastor to schedule a meeting. During that meeting, the family will learn about baptism and pray together for their little one’s entry into the life of faith. Baptism meetings are so special and fun!

At what age can my child receive Holy Communion? Expand

Baptized children of all ages are always welcome to begin receiving Holy Communion, no matter the time of year. We have resources about this sacrament that are suitable for all ages and would love to spend time with your child to talk about it. If kids are asking and curious about it, they’re showing they are ready!

Not only do we accept everyone, but we affirm everyone, including persons in the LGBTQ community. We believe that you're a child of God and you're loved exactly how you are.

Why learn from a 2,000 year old book? Expand

Although the Bible is really old and sometimes feels outdated, we believe that this is a love story from God to us and God speaks to us through this sacred book in meaningful and relevant ways.
