Part 4: Final Thoughts

The one unanswered prayer: The hair prayer
Yes, I prayed about my hair— a lot. Losing it was a fear that kept me up at night. Do I cold cap and try to save some of it, or shave it all off? I couldn’t believe how much I cared about something so superficial. But I realized it wasn’t just about vanity. For me, losing my hair would be a public statement that I was going through something big, and I’ve always preferred flying under the radar.
God hasn’t given me a clear answer on the hair thing. I try to save what I can, but I’ve come to terms with scarves, wigs, and hats. I know He’s got bigger things to deal with, but I still throw it out there in my prayers. And who knows? Maybe I’ll get a sign someday. The upside is it takes me way less time to get ready in the morning – and I look cute in a pink wig – who knew!
The most interesting question: “Were you angry with God?”
My cousin asked me this a few weeks ago – and it caused a lot of reflection. My answer is “absolutely not, the thought has never even entered my head” My reflection is not about the answer, but about why I have that answer. I am not some super amazing person – but through this journey somehow I have had such calmness, gratitude and humor – why? It’s all gotta be because of the Big Guy up there – I just know he is walking by my side every moment of every day!
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” —Philippians 4:4-6
God is real, and He’s right here, walking with me. This experience has made me realize just how much I rely on His presence. I’m still on this journey, but I know I’ll get through it. And when I do, I plan to do something epic to rejoice.
Rejoice Always!
