IN OUR CITY

Supporting Austin

Partnering with ministries in our own community to provide support for those in need.

LOCAL MINISTRIES

Mariposa Bread For All Sheltering Initiative Meals on Wheels UpBring
Mariposa

Mariposa Family Learning Center is ACL’s newly named and established effort in SE Austin to provide young families with high-quality child care, supplemented by parent education and support. MFLC will use a “2-Generation” approach – working simultaneously with children and their parents – with the goal of increasing each family’s access to economic, social, educational or spiritual resources.

Bread For All

Bread for All is a Food Pantry run by Austin City Lutherans, providing food for our neighbors in the Montopolis area every Monday at 5:30pm. Shepherd of the Hills’ official evening to serve is the third Monday of each month, but members can be found there every Monday!

Sheltering Initiative

The Sheltering Initiative is a new ministry of Austin City Lutherans combating and preventing homelessness in Austin.

Meals on Wheels

Over 20 Shepherd of the Hills members and friends deliver meals to those in need through the Meals on Wheels of Central Texas organization. Each route takes a maximum of 2 hours to pick up the meals and make the deliveries. If a weekly or monthly route does not fit your schedule, “on call” volunteers are also urgently needed. You would receive a call around 9am and asked if you can deliver a route out of Holy Cross or Parker Lane Methodist Church.

UpBring

UpBring is committed to giving all Texas children a brighter future. ShepHills supports three ministries of UpBring: BeREAL, helping foster youth transition to self-sufficiency as they age out of care; New Life Children’s Center, a residential center for young women between the ages of 11-17 needing in-depth therapy, personal development and spiritual care; and Foster in Texas, helping interested persons become foster parents.
